Valerian is a spatiotemporal agent. He was born in Galaxity, the capital of the Terran Galactic Empire. He joined the Spatio-Temporal Service in 2713. He is strong and dependable, but not the smartest. Despite being a time-traveler he is always running late, especially when summoned by his boss.
On a mission to eleventh-century France, he awakes entangled in a giant leaf. A young peasant girl named Laureline finds him, takes his sword, climbs up to the roof of the forest, and clears the branches above so the sun can penetrate and shrivel the leaf to free him.
